Black Tea Comparison Tasting
Let’s explore the diversity of Chinese black tea (Hong Cha, 红茶) through four distinctive selections from Sichuan and Yunnan. Each reflects its growing region, tea tree characteristics, and processing methods, making for a fascinating comparison tasting. Two of our selections are sun-dried black teas (Shai Hong, 晒红), a style more commonly associated with Yunnan. The first comes from Pasha in Xishuangbanna, made from arbor tea trees grown at around 1,800 meters. The second comes from Qingchuan in northern Sichuan, near the borders of Gansu and Shaanxi. Made from the local heirloom Lao Chuan Cha tea trees, this unusual Sichuan sun-dried black tea introduces a lesser-known tea region to our Club for the first time. Our other two teas showcase different expressions of Sichuan black tea. The Osmanthus-Scented Black Tea combines traditional Chuan Hong Gongfu black tea with fresh osmanthus flowers from Guizhou, scented in early October to capture the fragrance of autumn—a seasonal favorite among tea enthusiasts in China. Finally, our rare Huangjing Gushu Black Tea comes from Huangjing Town in Gulin County, southeastern Sichuan, home to more than a thousand ancient tea trees. This is another new tea region for our Club. We hope you'll enjoy discovering the diverse aromas and flavors these four black teas have to offer!
