Description
Meng Ding Mao Feng (蒙顶毛峰) originates from the high-altitude, mist-covered tea gardens of Mt. Mengding in Ya'an, Sichuan Province, China. The name 'Mao Feng' translates to 'Fur Peak,' referring to the fine white hairs covering the tea leaves and the peak-like shape of the processed leaves. This particular batch is harvested from the 'Fu Xuan #9' cultivar at elevations between 1,000 and 1,100 meters in late March, just before the Qingming festival. Unlike Meng Ding Gan Lu, which consists exclusively of buds and is harvested before Qingming, Meng Ding Mao Feng is typically harvested after Qingming, with the picking standard being one bud with two to three leaves. However, this premium batch is harvested before Qingming and adheres to a higher picking standard of one bud with one to two leaves. The processing of Meng Ding Mao Feng mirrors that of Gan Lu but involves two stages of pan-frying and rolling instead of three. Its picking standard and processing technique result in a tea that strikes a perfect balance in flavor—neither too subtle nor too robust, providing a nuanced alternative to the more delicate Gan Lu and the bolder later-harvest Mao Feng.
