Description
This tea is Wuliang Mountain, Yunnan’s interpretation of Eastern Beauty (东方美人)—a high-oxidation oolong influenced by tea jassid (Jacobiasca formosana, 小绿叶蝉), prized for honeyed aromatics and a lifted, fruit-and-floral profile. In early summer, the jassid feeds on young leaves, triggering the plant’s natural defense response and subtly reshaping leaf chemistry. That insect–leaf interaction—jassid feeding meeting the leaf’s enzymes—creates Eastern Beauty’s signature spectrum: honeyed sweetness, floral perfume, and ripe fruit tones. This particular garden was planted by Taiwanese growers over two decades ago, with cultivars chosen for fragrance-driven styles. Because quality depends on active jassid presence, the garden avoids conventional pesticides—one reason this style remains labor-intensive and comparatively rare. The leaves are hand-picked as one bud and two leaves, then crafted through a traditional oolong pathway, with an added resting/rehydration oxidation stage to deepen and knit the aromatics before rolling and drying. While the factory has experimented with Eastern Beauty in small batches before, this is their first formal release. Expect a honey-forward opening, expanding floral and fruit notes, and a clean, structured, high-mountain finish.
