- Description
- "Xishan Fengyun" (溪山凤韵) is a single-cultivar Da Hong Pao made from Qi Dan, a cultivar closely associated with the heritage of this celebrated Wuyi rock tea. The leaves were harvested in spring 2024 from a rocky valley near Shuilian Dong (Water Curtain Cave), where the producer describes a naturally humid growing environment. Harvested at the open-leaf stage, the tea underwent medium charcoal roasting to balance its rich body with the cultivar's characteristic fragrance. The dry leaves are tightly twisted and dark brown, with a substantial feel. When brewed, the tea produces a bright golden liquor with an elegant fragrance combining osmanthus, fresh herbs, and subtle mineral notes. Its taste is smooth and full-bodied, with gentle sweetness, a lingering aftertaste, and a lively finish. Unlike the blended Da Hong Pao teas in this collection, "Xishan Fengyun" highlights the individual character of Qi Dan, offering a closer look at how a single cultivar expresses itself through Wuyi's traditional tea-making techniques.
