- Description
- "Jiang Xiang" (酱香), meaning "sauce-like aroma," is a distinctive Da Hong Pao blend produced in spring 2023. The leaves come from an ecological tea garden in the Wuyi Mountains, where bamboo and other vegetation grow alongside the tea plants. Harvested at the open-leaf stage, the tea underwent medium-to-light charcoal roasting, a process intended to preserve and develop its unusual aromatic character. The producer describes a rich and complex fragrance combining orchid, ripe fruit, roasted grain, and a distinctive savory note reminiscent of fermented sauces. This character arises from the tea itself rather than added flavoring. The brewed liquor is bright orange-red, with a full, smooth texture, pronounced sweetness, and a lingering aftertaste that balances fruity and mineral impressions. Among the four selections, "Jiang Xiang" offers a particularly unusual expression of Da Hong Pao, demonstrating how cultivar characteristics, blending, and careful roasting can create a flavor profile that extends beyond the familiar floral and roasted notes of Wuyi rock tea.
