- Description
- This 2021 spring Tibetan dark tea is made from Lao Chuan Cha harvested at approximately 1,000 meters in Zhougongshan’s high-mountain ecological tea gardens. The plucking standard is around one bud with two or three leaves. After being processed through the Nanlu Biancha tradition, the tea was compressed into individual 5-gram bricks. Kang Brick (康砖) is one of the classic compressed forms of Ya’an Tibetan tea. Its name reflects its historical association with the Kang region and Kangding, an important center of the Sichuan–Tibet tea trade. A traditional Kang Brick commonly weighed about 500 grams; twenty bricks could be bound in bamboo into a roughly 10-kilogram tea bundle. Before modern roads, beifu (背夫, tea porters) carried stacks of these bundles from Ya’an across steep mountain routes to Kangding. The mini bricks are glossy black-brown and produce a clear, bright orange-red liquor. The tea has an aged aroma and a sweet, mellow, concentrated taste, followed by returning sweetness.
