- Description
- This aged Da Hong Pao was produced in 2014 using tea leaves from the Ban Yan (半岩, or "half-rock") growing area of the Wuyi Mountains. The original blend featured Shui Xian and Qi Zhong as its primary components, sourced from established ecological tea gardens. Initially charcoal-roasted at a medium level, the tea has undergone years of aging, gradually transforming its roasted character into a mellower, more integrated profile. The dry leaves are tightly twisted, with an aged fragrance that has replaced much of the initial charcoal aroma. The brewed liquor is amber in color, offering a smooth, rounded texture, gentle sweetness, and lingering aged notes. According to the producer, the tea retains a lively character despite its maturity, with a soft yet substantial mouthfeel. This tea illustrates how time can reshape Wuyi rock oolong, allowing its roasted aromas to mellow while developing the depth and complexity characteristic of well-aged Da Hong Pao.
