Shou Pu'er and White Tea from Da Zhuo Tea Co.
We’re honored to collaborate with Menghai Da Zhuo Tea Co. (勐海大拙茶业), a producer known for rethinking Shou Pu’er (Ripe Pu-erh) through both traditional craftsmanship and modern fermentation science. Founded in 2014 in Menghai County—widely regarded as the production center of Shou Pu’er and one of Pu’er tea’s most important regions—Da Zhuo takes its name from Laozi’s idea of “Great skill appears clumsy”, a reminder that true mastery is restrained and grounded in nature. While they respect the core principles of classic “wo dui” (wet piling) fermentation, Da Zhuo pursues a clean, health-forward style through research-driven process control, including directed microbial fermentation, off-ground monitored fermentation, and their own benchmark for “golden ripeness” to balance immediate sweetness with lasting depth. This month’s selection highlights three landmark origins that shape Shou Pu’er’s character in very different ways: Bulang Mountain (Menghai) for depth and structure, Jingmai Mountain (Pu’er) for sweet aromatic clarity, and Yiwu (Mengla) for gentle, silky softness. Alongside them, we included a special contrast: a high-mountain Menghai white tea pressed into convenient coins and traditionally scented with golden osmanthus from Lijiang. Together, these four teas offer a guided tasting across terroir, fermentation style, and daily brewing convenience.
