Anhua Dark Tea
Anhua dark tea (Hei Cha, 黑茶), originating from the lush mountains of Hunan’s Anhua County, is categorized into three distinct groups: the three “Jian” (Tips), including Tian Jian, Gong Jian, and Sheng Jian teas; the three “Zhuan” (Bricks), comprising Fu Zhuan, Hei Zhuan, and Hua Zhuan; and the one “Juan” (Roll), represented by the iconic Qian Liang Cha. After featuring Fu Zhuan and loose-leaf Tian Jian in our September 2023 collection, we have carefully selected four additional remarkable styles of Anhua dark tea that reflect its rich heritage and craftsmanship. As one of the birthplaces of dark tea, Anhua's unique terroir and centuries-old techniques continue to produce teas celebrated for their depth, complexity, and aging potential. This selection includes Qu Jiang Bao Pian, one of the earliest recorded dark teas, dating back to the Tang Dynasty, noted for its flat shape and iron-like color. Qian Liang Cha, a massive compressed tea log weighing 36.25 kilograms, showcases the pinnacle of traditional craftsmanship. The Hei Zhuan and Tian Jian Dragonball, both sourced from Muyangjie, a core tea-growing region in Anhua, exemplify the diverse flavor profiles this renowned tea style offers. Together, these four teas invite you to explore the captivating heritage and artistry of Anhua dark tea, offering a journey through its timeless traditions and exceptional diversity.
