Description
Different from almost all the other Chinese green teas, Enshi Yulu uses the traditional steaming method in the fixing (or kill-green) process, like many Japanese green teas. The word “Yulu” 玉露 literally means “jade dew”, and the Japanese word “Gyokuro” has the same written form in kanji. In China’s Tang Dynasty (AD 618 to 907), steamed green tea was the mainstream. At that time, some Japanese monks started planting tea trees using the seeds from China, and they applied the steaming method for fixing and have been doing that ever since. But nowadays in China, the pan-fry method has taken over to become the most common way for fixing, making EnShi YuLu a rare existence of Chinese green teas. It’s very delicate, sweet, and refreshing with some umami notes.
